HOT TIP!!!

Remember.....there is a difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive".  Your goal should be to save money on something with smart planning and smart shopping, while still accomplishing an elegant and personal look.  Skimping and cutting corners in an obvious way, or trying to overextend decor beyond your budget, can backfire and detract from a simple wedding.

Feather Frenzy - Bouquets, Centerpieces, and Other Decor Including Feathers

Feathers can be a unique addition to decor.  They can be a good substitute when flowers don't come in the colors you are looking for, or can add dimension and movement to a blah bouquet.  See below for some ideas of how to incorporate feathers into your wedding.

Bridesmaids Dresses

We have had a lot of recent requests for pictures of bridal parties where the girls are not all wearing exactly the same thing.  This can be a great way to spice up the look of your wedding, and allow your maids to feel like individuals.  You can choose the same color and fabric for your dresses, but have your ladies in assorted styles.  Or try using the same dress style in assorted colors.  Here are some pictures to get your creative juices flowing!

Q: My wedding dress is.....white, ivory, diamond, off-white, etc. But I am not planning to use this color in any of my other decor. Will another shade of flowers look weird? Is it ok for me to carry colored flowers? Do my flowers have to match my bridesmaids' bouquets?

A: There are many ways of phrasing the questions about a bride's bouquet. So, here are a few basic answers to fit many questions. First, the bride is always the most important and unique person at the event - thus her bouquet can be also. You have no obligation to match everyone else, or even incorporate exact colors into your bouquet. Some brides are very eager to have an all white bouquet - and you can do this even if your dress is a slightly different shade. Most guests will see "white" or "cream" as just that, even if it is technically off-white or diamond or ivory. An easy way to tie the look together with your dress is to take the scraps from the hemming/alteration on your dress and use that as ribbon to wrap your bouquet. Then you are sure to have an exact match! Other brides love the idea of color. And we say go for it! Try gorgeous red roses, assorted pastels, or a cascade of tropicals.

COLOR QUESTION:

Q: My bridesmaids are wearing brown OR navy.  Is it ok for my groomsmen to wear black tuxes?  Will it look weird?

A: For some reason, brides have been given the bad idea that brown and black or navy and black do not go together.  Well, it's just not true!  Sara's own bridesmaids wore lovely chocolate dresses and the guys were in black tuxes - no problem.  Black can be thought of as a "neutral" - it pretty much blends with anything.  The key is the accents - a lovely vest and tie in a soft metallic color such as silver or bronze, or a lovely boutenierre to add color.  So stop worrying and rent those black tuxes!

Q: I would love to incorporate fruit into my decor.  How can I do this?

A: Fruit is fun and a great way to add to centerpieces and other wedding decor.  Many brides are using items such as apples, pears, limes, lemons, and oranges to fill glass centerpiece containers and add color and style along with additional flowers or candles.  More delicate items such as grapes or berries can be also incorporated into larger floral arrangements.  Or use fruit as the main decorative item - a bowl of apples or assorted citrus can make an elegant and inexpensive centerpiece.  Berries are great for cake decorating in addition to or instead of flowers, and can hint at flavors inside.  Some brides even are getting quite creative with their fruit choices - how about kiwi?  Cranberries?  Peaches? Cherries?
